Photographing People: Compelling Environmental and Editorial Portraits

Workshop Dates: Three consecutive Tuesdays starting May 1 or three consecutive Tuesdays starting August 14.
Who should take this workshop: Amateur to advanced amateur. Those aspiring to develop a portfolio for exhibit or publication or to apply to post-secondary intuitions. Those who want to overcome their reluctance to photograph people.
The most compelling photographs one can produce are photographs of people. Nowhere in art is there a means of evoking such powerful responses as there is with images of people. In this workshop you will learn the basics of simple one-light studio portraiture techniques and then move to location, environmental, and editorial portraits. You will learn the devices and techniques to "connect" with your subjects to produce stunning images. Each week you will be given an assignment to be completed fro critique the following week. Classes are limited to 5 participants. Topics include:
- Effective and dramatic single-light studio portrait techniques.
- Natural, location lighting techniques.
- Vantage point and lens choice.
- Asking and receiving permission.
- Involving your subject in the shoot.
- Field, documentary, and editorial techniques.
- "It's all in the eyes..."
- Overcoming challenges: People, Location, and Lighting
