Henri Cartier-Bresson, considered by many to be the father of modern photojouralism, once said, "Complicated equipment and light reflectors and various other items of hardware are enough, to my mind, to prevent the birdie from coming out."
He was of course not referring to wildlife photography but to his craft, the art of seeing photographically and responding holistically. I have long maintained that good photography is not about the equipment, but rather, it is about the eye, your eye, and it was with that basic tenet in mind that I developed the current complement of workshops.
These workshops will require you to dig deeper, go further. They are less about learning the power of a single image, and more about the strength of multiple images. The workshop The Photo Narrative, for example, is about developing your portfolio for an exhibition or to show to a prospective client.
I am especially excited about the four-evening workshop series called Personal Perspective. The last few years of teaching these workshops has been particularily enlightening for me. It has been tremendously fulfiling and inspiring to watch emerging photographers work hard at defining and re-defining their personal perspective through their imagery. I am excited about being a part of the process that will compel photographers to reach a little bit higher, to move their craft to a whole new level.
I'm excited as well about the potential for this blog. I shall update weekly with items that will, I'm hoping, be of interest and will provide you with a different perspective and a different way of seeing the world.
But most of all, I welcome your feedback and your comments. I am looking forward to the dialogue!
